Tao Te Ching

-22-

Speaking rarely about the Tao is natural.
Just as gusts of wind do not howl all day
and rain does not gush continuously,
so too does the practitioner of the Way
remain a certain Way while being in another Way.

Heaven and earth are only here for a moment
and so too is the human being.

Those who follow the Way
are subjected to becoming a Way for others.

The virtuous are virtuous because of the Way
and those who have lost the Way
have lost the Way because of the Way.

Those who are happy to gain the Way
are equally happy to lose the Way.

Happiness is of the Way and sadness is of the Way.

Those who trust in the Way
are naturally of a good disposition
and those who distrust in the Way
are of the same nature as those who trust in themselves.

-23-

Being undifferentiated before differentiation
occurred in the midst of heaven and earth,
the primordial mind is still and alone
without being still and alone.

Though its cycles are unending,
it is the mother of the world.

Though it has no name, it is the Way.

Greatness being the Way,
what is great goes far into itself
only to continue to return to something that is not itself.

Heaven, earth and humanity is great.
Humanity follows the greatness of the earth
and the earth follows the greatness of heaven.
Heaven is of the Way and the Way is of Nature.
