SILENCE....
Why have we become so afraid of silence, by silence I mean the ability to sit without all the distractions of today. I include myself in this group, to be able to sit and collect ones thoughts seems to be a thing of the past. Are we are so afraid to listen to our “Inner Voice” because of what we might hear?
The silence of thought should be something we all do on a regular basis, call it meditation, a brain brake, time to collect ones self, whatever. But to sit and enjoy nothing, to not be entertained by someone or some thing. We are so overwhelmed by the daily noise that it hurts to hear nothing, but do you really hear nothing. Our inner voice seems to always be talking to us, even when we don’t want it to, “you should be exercising”, “you should be cleaning”, “you should be getting dinner ready” but once in a while it says “YOU SHOULD TAKE SOME TIME FOR YOURSELF!”
To me silence is sitting and listening to the world around us, not the electronic world of commercials, broadcasting or even music but the the world. To sit and hear a breeze approaching, a cricket chirping, or nothing at all, it allows us to breath or as I think of it “reboot” our systems.
I think most of us are afraid of our “Inner Voice” because when we do hear it all we hear are the “negative comments” it makes, sometimes it’s like the bully who lived down the street and waited for you to walk past his house to school every day. What did you try to do, you tried to avoid it, take a different route, or anything else you could think of. Well the “Inner Voice Bully” needs to be stood up to, let it know that you are worth it, you are special, and you do have talent because you deserve time for yourself, to grow, to blossom, to enrich yourself to your fullest potential.
There is a time when everyone gets an information overload and how we handle it is very important, some people retreat become more solitude, some become more aggressive and how they deal with their aggression can be dangerous. We must remember when electronics are overloaded they tend to breakdown, and sometimes explode. Your brain is just another electronic devise with millions of circuits that are bombarded a million times over the course of one day, “give it a break” let it cool down with the “Gift of Silence”.
To find ones self or your path in life you may first want to start with a search within, it can be a bumpy road with many twists and turns but once you learn to listen and listen closely you will begin to hear “your voice”. This voice is a gentle voice, a kind voice with no malice towards others, it only wants what is best for you.
We all deserve to take time for ourselves, it’s OK to be selfish once in a while, listen to that “Inner Voice” and learn to “LOVE THE SILENCE.”
Until the next time.....Blessings
