Reiki for life

I first came upon Reiki because I was sick. I had cancer and my best friend who was a massage therapist at the time decided that I was not going to die if she could help it.

Meanwhile, I had never heard of Reiki and had a three year old daughter, so was not prepared to place my future in the hands of something so radical! BUt I did agree to let her take care of me after my surgery to help me deal with the aftermath.

she gave me Reiki faithfully twice sometimes three times a day for two weeks, the radiating warm glow, the fear melting away, the health of my body taking over the hard suture lines.. this is what I remember about those two weeks. The Love.

When I went back for my checkup, my doctor kept looking at my surgery site and then at my chart.. finally he said, 'didn't I do this surgery two weeks ago?' I nodded.
'well, young woman, I don't know what kind of gene pool you come from , but you are almost 7 weeks healed'. He left the room shaking his head. I tucked that bit away in my heart. I was going to live.

And so began this journey.

It would be five more years until I received my own Reiki gift and 12 more years until I received my Reiki Master. I wish I had not waited so long. What I didn't realise about Reiki before I began practicing it so regularly was the amazing and cleansing way it works with the whole person. mind, body and spirit.

Not only did I begin to feel better physically but as I practiced I began to feel the benefits of a more balanced emotional life and many physical issues that I had not attributed to spiritual things began to clear up for me.

I gave REiki away for a long time, not willing to charge money for healing. Finally my Reiki teacher reminded me that I was violating one of the tenents of Reiki, that there be an energy exchange for every session, class or service.

Last year I began to practice in Peru. When some of my volunteer friends had various travel illnesses and surfing injuries, I offered Reiki. We were amazed at the results.. ranging from a curative for giardia to a broken eardrum miraculously repaired... after a while, some of my friends and clients began to ask me if it would be possible to hold classes.

The love and the energy and the care we all have experienced at Liberar( to set free) Usui Reiki School has far surpassed our previous experiences. We meet once a week to share a meal and do group Reiki shares. We are casual about our practice. We don't use diaphanous robes or chanting.. we tend to play Radiohead or joni mitchell depending on what the person on the table wants to relax to. we find ourselves having conversations about the spiritual world that we would never have had at the pub!

We are planning a Reiki retreat for this summer ( Peruvian summer which is in December!) for all who are interested. We have lovely accommodation and food, the beach is nearby where our friend Miguel can offer daily morning yoga session; We will be offering REiki healing sessions and level one and two Usui Reiki classes, Reiki card readings and personal sessions for emotional and spiritual healing.

The group determines the progress. We have found that the bonding and the love we share as Reiki practionars and clients transforms our way of living in the world.

I invite you to contact us if you would like more information or history..Reiki is a diverse and multicultural practice, not a religion. IT easily strengthens and transforms whatever spiritual practice you already have or can guide you to the place you want to start to learn from..

Whatever your desire, I wish you peace and the breath of the divine to gently move you on your way!
