If your home is invaded, and I hope it never is, there are a few things that you should never do. They’re common sense tips that can possibly save your life or the lives of your loved ones so keep reading.
Does your assailant have a gun? Do you have a gun? It’s never a good idea to draw your weapon on him if he is aiming his weapon at you. The only exception to this rule is if you believe that he’s going to kill you anyway.
Does your assailant want you to comply with his demand to go with him somewhere; maybe to get some money? Never go willingly. Being transported to a secondary location is never good. Again, the only exception to this rule is if you believe he will kill you if you don’t.
Are you being restrained? Does he want to use handcuffs or ties to restrain you? Don’t allow this willingly but always try to talk him out of this if possible. With your hands restrained, you will be greatly hindered to try any self protective measures.
Likewise, are you being told to get into a vehicle trunk? Again, try to talk your assailant out of this if at all possible. Being in the trunk will limit what you can do to draw attention to your drastic situation.
Is your home invader taking items in your home that you cherish? Fight the urge to get upset and enter into an altercation with him over them. Your life and the lives of your household members are far more valuable than any material possessions you cherish.
Finally, did your home invader decide to leave after getting what he wanted? You may think this is your chance to follow him and track him down. Don’t! Get a good description and allow local law enforcement to do that for you.
Often times a well place and thought out stun gun zap can buy you the time you need to get help but if that isn’t possible the above situations are important to remember.
