Have you ever thought it would be helpful to have a little chat with a burglar? Maybe get some insight on what they look for when they're about their “business?” Well, this is a series of postings from this prospective so stay tuned. You might just learn a few things about how to keep your home and hard earned possessions safe.
Our career burglar says:
First, I may look familiar. I was probably at your house recently to perform some service like cleaning or installing your new carpets, or delivering a new appliance.
Also, thanks for allowing me use your bathroom while I was there. I took the liberty of unlatching the window so when I come back it will be much easier for me to get in.
I noticed that you have a beautiful flower bed. A nicely appointed yard informs me that the owner has inpecible taste ... And that means you have valuable things inside your home too. And while I'm on the subject of your yard, those toys your children forget to put away in the garage cause me to think you probably have a nice gaming system inside the house for their enjoyment.
If you travel and have decided not to stop the daily paper because it's a hassle or you think it won't matter, think again, more than one newspaper in the driveway or on the front step is a huge clue for me . I might leave a restaurant ad on your front door handle just find out if you're really home to remove it.
I love winter time and virgin snow. Fresh snow in the driveway several days after the snowfall is a dead giveaway. It's usually too much of a hassle to ask a neighbor to drive their car in and out of your driveway and make some foot prints into and around your house. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Finally, you really don't want to install one of those hidden cameras like the one below. I hate my picture being taken!
